The reason for the recall? The Government of Canada — Healthy Canadians website writes:

The stud sensor can fail to calibrate properly and detect AC electrical wires behind the wall, posing a shock hazard to the user.

There have been no reports of injuries related to this defect. The models were sold at Wal-Mart, Rona and Home Depot stores across Canada.

What should you do if you purchased one of these tools?

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled stud sensors and contact Stanley to receive a free replacement sensor.

For more information, consumers may contact Stanley toll-free at 1- 800-263-6292 between 8AM and 5PM ET Monday to Friday, or e-mail Stanley at stanleytools@stanleycustomercare.com, or visit the firm’s website.
