Master Lock integrated cable lock
A few months ago, a thief broke into my storage locker and made off with $400.00 worth of tools. Now, I hope a similar thing never happens to you, but if you have had tools taken, you’ll know that it stings more than losing a stereo or TV. You build projects or maintain your house with your tools. You know their idiosyncrasies. Whatever the thief is going to get out of those tools, it in no way matches the intrinsic value they have for you. In short, having those tools taken from me was a colossal bummer.
To beef up security in my dodgy little storage locker, I tried out the Master Lock integrated cable lock. The base unit comes with a braided cable lock, like one you might see securing bicycles. Loop the cable around the tools and toolboxes you want to lock up, and something that’s not going to move, and click the cable into the locking point. The cool thing about the locking point is that is as room for two cables (second cable comes separately). Having two cables means I can get at the toolboxes I need quite easily. And if you wanted to daisy chain other cables to those cables…well, you’d have a lot of lock-up options, but, of course, more cables to go through. My only criticism is that the locking mechanism isn’t very smooth. I often struggle to set the two cables in place in the locking point. However, as you can see from the photos below, I’m using those cables to keep any would-be thieves at bay. So far, so good.

Those grey cables are looped around everything I want to secure

The locking point has a magnet that will hold on to a toolbox or a truck bed

I have a Boler trailer and have been looking for something to use to hook it up to a tree, or something heavy, when I leave it at a campgound so it would be more difficult for anyone to hook onto it and tow it away. These seem plenty long enough to do this and can be attached to the tongue with the magnet. Anyone towing a Boler attached to a picnic table might be a bit obvious. Where are they sold in Ontario so I can see them. Thanks, judypowell7@hotmail.com.
