Workshop cocktails

Inspired by wine rack projects, we started thinking about cocktails that sound as if they belong in the toolbox. (Actually, we’re sure we don’t have to tell you that these drinks should be enjoyed after the tools have been put away.) Here are some tasty numbers for the DIYer in repose. If you want to use a spade bit as a swizzle stick, well, make sure it’s clean.

Screwdriver
A classic drink that is as popular as a Robertson
– 1 1/2 oz. vodka
– 6 oz. orange juice
Fill a tumbler with ice. Add vodka and orange juice. Stir.

Power Drill
This drill isn’t powered by nickel-cadmium or lithium-ion
– 1/2 oz. vodka
– 1/2 oz. orange juice
– 1 splash of beer
Pour equal parts vodka and orange juice into a tumbler. Splash in a bit of beer and then start drilling.

Rusty Nail
After pulling rusty nails out of old boards, you can pour one into your lowball glass
– 1 1/2 oz. Scotch whisky
– 1/2 oz. Drambuie
Fill an old-fashioned glass with ice. Add Scotch and Drambuie. Stir. Garnish with a lemon twist.

Absolute Chainsaw
This drink is about as subtle as its eponymous saw
– 1/2 oz. vodka
– 1 oz. Wild Turkey bourbon
– 1/2 oz. Jägermeister
– beer
Add the first three ingredients into a highball glass.
Fill the glass with beer. Enjoy.

Create your own mini-pallet drink coaster

You don’t want drink rings marring the new finish on your table, right? Use a coaster. You can head to your nearest craft store to pick up some balsa wood and make your own mini-pallet, or order one from Designboom ($25).
