Build the pegboard

Begin by cutting 1" x 2" pine into two pieces 48" long, and two more 24" long. With a 1/4" dado blade in your tablesaw, cut a 1/4"-wide x 3/8"-deep groove in the inside-centre of all four pieces, then mitre the ends to 45º.

Trim 1/4"-thick pegboard to 23 1/4" x 47 1/4" to fit into the grooves, then assemble the frame around it. Put a bead of glue into the dados and clamp the joints tightly. Once the glue has cured, reinforce the joints by driving two #6 x 11?4"-long wood screws into predrilled holes in each joint.

From the MDF cleats you made earlier, cut one piece 24" long and attach it flush to the top of the pegboard frame with a combination of glue and more 1 1/2" wood screws in countersunk holes. This time, make sure the bevel faces downward and pointed in toward the back of the pegboard.

Finally, you’ll need to install a 3/4" spacer strip to the bottom of the frame so the pegboard hangs flat against the wall. A piece of 3/4" x 1 1/2" x 24" scrap MDF is perfect. Secure it to the back of the pegboard with more glue and a few screws.
